REVALUATION: FAIR MARKET VALUE PROGRAM UPDATE

In our last newsletter our lead article was about the Southampton Township property revaluation project.  We asked our township Tax Assessor, Dennis De Klerk, to give us an update on the project.  He informs us that the program is on schedule.  As of the beginning of June, 136 commercial inspections have been made, and 2,310 residential inspections have been completed.  This represents 54% of all property in Southampton Township.  The vast majority of work has been done east of Route 206 along Route 70.  As July progresses, the inspectors will move into the remaining neighborhoods west of Route 206.

New land values and calculations are currently being tested on the Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal system (CAMA), which is the high tech backbone of this project.  Once this work has been finalized, new property assessments can be produced.  Everyone will receive a mailed notification of the new proposed assessment in November.  During the month of December anyone who wishes may come forward for an informal review of their new assessment.  At this time they may question its basis should there be a concern.  Dates and times for this review will be made available at a later date.  All new assessments are to be utilized for the 2003 tax year, so tax bills will not be affected until July of next year.

Everyone is reminded that the property inspectors are to have photo ID at all times.  Additionally, the vehicles they are driving are registered with the township.  Should any resident have a question regarding this program they are invited to contact Dennis De Klerk, Assessor, at 859-3235.
