MEET MELISSA HERBERT
TAX CLERK
Melissa Herbert has lived in Southampton
for 20 years of her life. She attended Southampton
Township Schools and graduated from Burlington County Institute of Technology
in Medford in
2000. At BCIT, she studied Computer
Science and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Melissa started working for Southampton Township in July of 2002, having had
previous work experience at a busy lawyer’s office. Melissa feels that the experience gained in
the legal firm was very helpful in the performance of her duties as a Tax
Clerk, assisting Tax Collector, Gwen Jobes. Melissa’s duties encompass a number of
responsibilities such as handling the quarterly collections of taxes, including
the folding, stuffing and mailing the tax bills and receiving payments by mail
and at the window. She also assists in
the filing of various reports and the coordination of the annual tax sale.
In May, 2005, Melissa reached a milestone
by completing her training and passing the test which qualified her as a
Certified Tax Collector.
In addition to her responsibilities as Tax
Clerk, Melissa is also the Deputy Registrar of Vital Statistics and Deputy
Discovery Clerk. She is also a volunteer
collector of donations
for the Salvation Army, along with Mrs. Jobes, and
assists in the annual township Easter
Egg Hunt.
Melissa lives at home with her parents,
Jamie and El and brother, Matt. She
enjoys going bowling. Melissa also likes
to go camping, spending time at the family vacation home in New York state,
riding ATV’s and snowmobiling. She is a
big NASCAR fan and loves to go to as many races as she can.
